Emmanuel Pollau-Dulian me fait découvrir la version illustrée par Roméo Dumoulin (1883 – 1944) de Trois hommes dans un bateau (chroniqué ici).
Artiste belge – il a fait St Luc mais le dictionnaire des illustrateurs le présente comme autodidacte – il se spécialise dans l’illustration et l’affiche avec un dessin plutôt humoristique sans être caricatural. Toutes les œuvres de sa dernière exposition en 1940 à Rotterdam ont été détruites lors du bombardement de la ville et il ne s’en remettra pas.

Trés belle découverte;merci à vous deux!Finesse de la couleur également;Dumoulin avait un bon éditeur…
J’ai essayé,en vain,suite à ton billet passé,de remettre la main sur mon exemplaire,pas bien beau,de ce qui fut mon ”premier livre”(avant Camara Laye),d’un bleu pâlichon,à la couv. cartonnée…L’ai-je seulement lu jusqu’au bout à ce moment là…
Bref.Ce cher Jérôme,écrivain tardif,aura réussi à parler de lui sans cesse dans ses livres-sans parler de son autobiographie-sans jamais être dans le ”moi-je”.Costaud.
Je ne connaissais même pas Camara Laye… C’est vrai que les couleurs sortent bien sur les images de Trois hommes…
