Fred G. Cooper (1883 – 1962) est un illustrateur états-unien mais aussi directeur artistique, graphiste, créateur d’affiche, enseignant… Je dis peut-être des bêtises mais il semble très influencé par l’école allemande tendance Simplicissimus avec une ligne très claire et une recherche d’efficacité remarquable, le tout assaisonné d’un humour visuel. Il a été connu pour ses petites vignettes qui illustraient des pages du magazine Life et on retrouve le même concept dans Simplicissimus.
Miracle de la ligne claire, son travail est resté d’une modernité foudroyante et aurait pu apparaître dans les magazines BD des années 1980 – ce qui n’est plus tout à fait moderne, j’en conviens.

Les vignettes avec les chats sont trop marrantes.
Il y a même un grand méchant loup ah ah.
C’est vrai c’est plutôt moderne pour l’époque.
Qui fait peur à Hitler, le loup. C’est moderne parce qu’intemporel. C’est aussi une esthétique qui a été passée de mode, puis est revenue.
